John 15:13 says this: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
This to me is such a amazing verse. It has a command, a action, and it talks about love. I really kind of just want to talk about part b. That he lay down his life for his friends. Wow. My whole life i thought it meant that i should be willing to die for my friend. And don't get me wrong i think that is does say that. But i also think it says a whole lot more. I think that the term "lay down his life" can be seen in different ways. I think sometimes it just means talking to a visitor at church. Helping the elderly when you know you could be getting your nails done. Sitting by a kid at school or Sunday school that is not really accepted. Lately I've been think a lot about accepting people. I've wondered do I really do it often enough. Just because the visitors a boy does that mean i can't just say hi? Why don't we? Why do we leave the greeting to someone else? Jesus was a friend to the outcasts. We need to follow His example. Jesus loved us enough to leave a perfect heaven to come to a broken world. Are we willing to lay down our life, our time, our money(in some cases) to help others. I encourage you to take this Bible verse to heart.
